We Ripped Up This Old Rotten Decking & Frame
Out With the Old: A Complete Decking Replacement
Another recent project from the LNJ team: we ripped up this old, rotten decking and its frame, and replaced it with a brand new, solid deck. When the frame underneath has gone, new boards alone won’t fix it, so the only lasting answer is to take it all back to the ground and start again. Take a look at our decking design and installation service to see what we can do for your garden.

Before
Over the years, the old timber deck and the frame supporting it had rotted, leaving it soft underfoot, unsafe and an eyesore in the garden. It’s a problem we see regularly across Braintree, Shalford, the Notleys, Coggeshall and Sible Hedingham, particularly with older decks that sit close to the ground and stay damp.
The Work
Our team stripped out the old boards and the rotten frame, cleared the area and took all the waste away. With a clean base to work from, we built a new, level frame and laid fresh decking boards over the top, so the new deck is solid and built to last.
After
The finished deck is safe, sturdy and ready to enjoy, giving the garden back a usable outdoor space. If your own decking is past its best, it’s often worth replacing it properly rather than patching it up, and we’re always happy to take a look and give you an honest recommendation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my decking needs replacing? Common signs are boards that feel soft or spongy underfoot, boards that bounce or move, visible rot or crumbling wood, and a frame that has started to sag. If the frame underneath is rotten, the deck usually needs replacing rather than repairing.
Can you replace just the boards and keep the old frame? Sometimes, yes. If the frame is still sound, new boards can be laid on top. But where the frame has rotted, as it had on this job, it needs to come out too, otherwise the new boards won’t last.
Do you remove the old decking? Yes. We strip out the old boards and frame, clear the area and take all the waste away, leaving the site ready for the new deck.
Do you offer free quotes for decking replacement? Yes, we provide free, no-obligation quotes for every decking project, from replacing a small deck to designing a completely new one.
